Home-Start Family and Volunteer Coordinator

Salary: £22,183 - £25,991 (pro rata)

30 hours per week (required to be flexible)

Home-Start Herefordshire is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with children 0-18 years. Home-visiting volunteers provide regular support and practical help to families under stress, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown.

We are seeking to recruit a Family and Volunteer Coordinator who will deliver our volunteer befriending support services, supporting vulnerable families who have specific parenting needs with children aged 0-18 years.

The successful candidate will be supporting all aspects of Home-Start’s work with families to ensure no child’s future potential is limited by today’s challenges. By working directly with both families and children or indirectly through managing volunteers and working with partners, outcomes focussed support will be planned, managed and delivered.  Examples of specific activities you will have responsibility for include (please see full job description for more information):

  • Identifying needs of families and children
  • Working directly with child/ren on identified needs
  • Helping parents improve through e.g. delivering parenting courses/workshops, supporting their development
  • Signposting and encouraging families to take advantage of other help and services (peer and professional)
  • Matching and supporting volunteers to work with families to deliver successful outcomes for families and children
  • Working collaboratively with other organisations to meet family needs.

Qualifications and experience of working with children and families is essential, together with a good standard of education. The role will require sensitivity and excellent communication skills.

You should understand and be committed to the role of the voluntary sector and be able to work on your own initiative and in a challenging environment. 

The role is based at our offices at Thorn Business Park Rotherwas in Hereford but will require travel across the county.  A valid driving licence and use of own car is essential (expenses paid)
